I find its the hardest part of anything. Swimming. Homework. Exams. I`m going to go with the swimming pool metaphor here, because it works. Basically, tell yourself to jump in is harder than doing it. The leap is harder than the splash.
This is why I always get stuck at the planning phase. Because I freak myself out of doing anything, and start procrastinating actual action because I'm afraid.
But, on the upside, I've found that, once you take the plunge, its actually easier. Like jumping into a pool, once you jump, gravity does the rest.
All of the above was me telling myself to stop thinking it through already and throw myself into this contest application. JUST DO IT ALREADY, self. I'm the weirdest combination of carefully considering everything and diving into stuff without thinking.
Okay, somewhere in the above text is an actual point: don't get caught up planning every little detail (that's how we get all those books about futuristic, controlled societies that the character would do anything to escape). And also, don't use aforementioned planning to avoid actual action.
P.S. I'm not saying don't plan. Planning is essential. I'm just saying don't have a bunch of plans floating around without ever getting done.
Wow. That turned out to be a very long, and relatively pointless post. Sigh.

We Day
This is going to be a quick post.
Free the Children hosts We Day, which is basically a concert and speaker day combo, to help motivate youth. Latest one was yesterday. People from my school went. So did my sister. I'm a little jealous, but whatever.
I hear it was wonderful. Al Gore was there! And so was Jesse Jackson (he worked with Martin Luther King Jr.). So were Craig and Mark Keilburger (they founded Free the Children when they were both kids). I hope some of you guys get to go some day.

RIM and free the children are offering a contest for students in the Waterloo Region. Anyone ages 14-18 can enter. The prize is going to Kenya or India to learn more about these developing countries and build a school or a clean water project. More info here.
Just thought someone out there might like to know...
And, there's another campaign going on right now. This one's geared more toward girls. Power of a Girl Initiative. Natalie Portman's part of this campaign, if you're a fan of her... (See. Some people use there fame to do something productive...)

I'm not a total hypocrite
You know how I'm always complaining that people don't do anything to save the world, and some of you are probably thinking "jeez, hypocrite much?". Well, I'm trying. My sister and I went shopping.Yep. This is our idea of girl bonding time. We're going to drop all of this stuff off at the humane society. Our cat stole the catnip toys, so those are hers now, though.
Wow. I feel like an egomaniac. I'm sorry. I just feel like such a hypocrite sometimes, and I get excited when I do something, and can prove to myself that I'm not a horrible person. Well, at least, I hope I'm not a horrible person.
If doing something like this interests you, visit your local humane society's website and check out their wishlist. They always need something.
I've go to go now (as in, my parents say get off the computer).
Now, go forth and save the world!

I HATE you, corporations!
Well, its true. I'm mad at this all-business attitude.
IN WHAT KIND OF WORLD ARE ANIMALS NOTHING BUT TOOLS?

http://beta.images.theglobeandmail.com/archive/01159/dog_sled_2-web_1159289cl-3.jpg
This is what happened to bug me. After the Olympics, they killed about seventy sled dogs just because they weren't needed. Brutally killed them. Now, the business in charge is all lie "we thought it was going to be humane". Well, I've got news for you, businesspeople!
1)I don't care what you thought it didn't happen.
2)I hate that it was inhumane. But I hate the concept just as much. I mean, SEVENTY dogs is awful. But this isn't the end of it. Humans have a major case of egomania. We think that we're the most important things that exist, that have existed, that will ever exist. Doesn't the fact that animals are living things too matter at all? They can't be cast off after one use, like saran-wrap!
3)Animals should only be euthenized if they are suffering or dangerous. Not because you don't know what else to do with them. The article (which was in the Globe and Mail today) said that the company made an attempt to adopt them out. Well that sounds pretty darn feeble! Was there anything about adopting huskies on the news? Anyone? I didn't see or hear about anything (not that I watch the news very often, but still, you'd think it would show up on my online news paper thingy). If they couldn't think of a humane way to do something, they obviously aren't thinking hard enough, or need someone with an actual conscience.
Feel free to correct or contest me on any of these points.
